Manilla Road

Yet another excellent piece of work, this time by Epic Metal pioneers Manilla Road. I dare say that Manilla Road were, indeed, the originators of the genre, taking heavy metal and mixing in doom, thrash, and power elements, and, among other things, adding a certain sound to their music that can only be identifyed as EPIC. In addition, Mark Sheltons original styles play a major part in
his composition, and his typical guitar shredding dominates the solos.
Crystal Logic (original 1983, Black Dragon Records; reissue 2002, Iron Glory records (containing a bonus track)) is a classic of the Epic genre, beginning with "Prologue," an intro that provides a atmosphere which adds to the all around epicness of the album, fading into the classic "Necropolis," which no fan of epic metals should go without hearing. The album continues through a variety of other styles, some slow, doomy ones, others faster, and bordering on thrashy (though that is not really a dominant style on the album), and finally finishing with the most epic song on the album, "Dreams of Eschaton," a 12 minute long track, a large part of which is awesome soloing with assistance from a recording/delay pedal (skill is still present, i assure you). In conclusion, this is an awesome album of epic porportions.
