Skyclad

Chips are down and stakes are high,
Milk-shake minds are sucked bone dry.
If their fiendish schemes should fail,
They'll smoke us all - but not inhale!

Artist: Skyclad
Album: Folkemon (2000)
Genre: Folk Metal
Official Site: http://www.skyclad.co.uk/index.html/

Skyclad are hailed as the creators of the Folk Metal genre. The British band was originally formed by Sabbat vocalist Martin Walkyier and Pariah guitarist Steve Ramsey as a sort of one-album project, but soon evolved into one of the greatest metal bands around. The group underwent many line-up changes in the beginning of their career, but they've pulled together. This album marks the last in which Walkyier is on vocals before he went on to form The Clan Destined. This is Skyclad's Folkemon. Notable tracks include The Great Brain Robbery, Polkageist, and When God Logs-Off.

Tracklist:
1. The Great Brain Robbery - (4:34)
2. Think Back and Lie of England - (4:59)

Elvenking

Seven moons painted the skies
Before I reached for the chosen one
A travel through the starlit horizons
Through the magic's way
On the path that leads us to knowledge,
A light fall of rites

Artist: Elvenking
Album: The Scythe (2007)
Genre: Power Folk Metal
Official Site: www.elvenking.net

Elvenking is not new to the metal community - almost every fan of Power or Folk Metal has heard of Damnagoras's vocals combined with the folky guitar tracks and violins. This brand of Folk-influenced Power Metal is incredible, and with the arrival of this latest album, the group continues on its conquest of the genre. The Scythe is a must-have for any Elvenking fan. Notable tracks include Romance and Wrath, The Scythe, and Death and the Suffering (a play off of the Wintersun song Death and the Healing).

Chur

Вій, брате мій, брате Вітре нестримний!
Вій, брате мій, поза хмари лети!
За небокрай, де є Вирій світлий,
Птаха мого ти на крилах своїх донеси!

Artist: Chur
Album: Brother Wind
Genre: Pagan Folk Metal
Website: http://www.chur.ho.com.ua/

Chur is a Pagan Folk Metal band from Ukraine. This band is the brainchild of one man - Chur. While his name obviously a moniker, Chur's skills at instrumentality and his knowledge of Ukrainian folk music is not fake. The man singlehandedly plays guitar, bass, drums and other percussion, and keyboards, as well as performs the vocals. He invites two other female singers to aid him on certain tracks, but aside from them, he is alone in the band. Marvel at his only release so far, Brother Wind.

Tracklist:
1. Brother Wind - (8:00)
2. Oldman - (5:55)
3. The Raven - (5:53)
4. The Sun - (4:56)
5. Kuyaba (Instrumental) - (6:36)
6. Sorrow of the Dead - (8:28)
7. Three Ways - (5:44)
8. Spring the Wonderful - (6:17)
9. The Pussy-Willow Board (Ukranian Traditional Song Cover) - (6:13)
10. Power of Slavic Warriors (1980
Цветы Cover) - (3:59)
11. Herr Mannelig (Norwegian Traditional Song Cover) - (5:47)

Otyg

Artist: Otyg
Album: Sagovindars Boning
Genre: Folk/Viking Metal
Last.fm: http://www.last.fm/music/Otyg

Otyg is a disbanded side-project of Vintersorg. The music is what you'd typically think Folk metal would sound like. It's rich in Scandinavian heritage and features instruments such as violin, lute, willow flute, jaw harp (boing boing!), and of course, guitar, bass, and drums. The songs are catchy and memorable, pretty much something you can easily dance along to. The album even features a cover of the legendary
Dio song, Holy Diver. The vocals are nice and chanty with the occassional female vocal that tends to hide within Folk and Gothic metal. It's a very good listen, and I suggest it if you like catchy music, or if you're just looking for something to bounce along with while drinking! Damn, I love that jaw harp! *boing boing*
