Stormwarrior

Axe and sworse in my handes
Decievers indaved these landes
A charge, their false heartes to kill
The calle of the gods to fulfill

Artist: Stormwarrior
Album(s): Stormwarrior (2002), Northern Rage (2004), Heading Northe (2008)
Genre: Power Metal
Official Site: http://www.stormwarrior.de/

Stormwarrior has had the great honor of working with famous guitarist Kai Hansen throughout their discography. The Gamma Ray founder produced Stormwarrior's first two albums, as well as played guitar on some of the tracks. The group plays a very 80's German style of Power Metal, pulling heavy influences from Helloween and Running Wild. These guys are balls-to-the-walls heavy with riffs, and the guitarists perform insane solos. Vocals are powerful and commanding, as expected from a Power Metal band with Vikings as their main theme. If you don't enjoy Stormwarrior, you are not a man. And if you're already a woman, then... well... you're just a woman who doesn't like Stormwarrior, which means you need to go make me a sandwich.

Here's a video for you to enjoy while you're downloading these albums.

Heavenly

Strange, this sensation in my mind
Creature I will become one
On my way, there's no sun
But I have to carry on.

Artist: Heavenly
Albums: Dust to Dust (2004), Virus (2006)
Genre: Power Metal
Official Site: http://www.heavenly.fr/

Heavenly are a French Power Metal band that played a sort of Helloween-esque metal in their early years but have since found their own niche. They've had many line-up changes over the years, including having Fredreric Leclerq (bassist for Dragonforce) as their keyboardist and guitarist, but they've finally settled and discovered their own sound. These two albums are their latest.
Virus is somewhat different than their previous double-bass filled releases, utilizing more technical drumming than just pounding away with a double-bass pedal, as well as giving vocalist Benjamin Soto a larger range to sing in.

Dust to Dust was uploaded by Reverend Richter, and Virus was uploaded by Keeper of the Seven Keys for your Heavenly double-penetration of awesomeness.

We are the voices in the dark
Inside the fire we are the
Eternal Spark that will guide the way

Artist: Hammerfall
Album: Crimson Thunder (2002)
Genre: Power Metal
Official Site: http://www.hammerfall.net/

Hammerfall, the wildly popular Power Metal band from Sweden, formed in 1993 when Oscar Dronjak split from Ceremonial Oath to start his own band. After going through many line-up changes (including members from bands such as In Flames and Dark Tranquility), the group settled on the one that would bring one of their best albums, Crimson Thunder. Hammerfall toured with groups such as DIO in North America and the likes of Iron Maiden, Slayer and Stratovarius in Europe. A music video was also made for the single, Hearts on Fire. This album is definately a Power Metal must-have.

Kiko Loureiro

Artist: Kiko Loureiro
Album: No Gravity (2005)
Genre: Power Metal
Official Site: http://www.kikoloureiro.com.br/

Brazilian-born Kiko Loureiro is most famously known for his work as the guitarist for Brazilian Progressive Power Metal group Angra. Although Andre Matos took the rhythm section of Angra with him when he departed from the group to create Shaaman, Kiko Loureiro rebuilt the group and began releasing albums again as Angra. Most people do not know, however, that Loureiro has his own solo albums as well. The guitarists' incredible skill is evident on his two solo albums, both of which are purely instrumental. This is his first solo album, No Gravity. If you're a fan of Angra or Power Metal in general, I suggest you get these albums. Notable tracks include Escaping, La Force de L'âme, and Beautiful Language.

Ark Storm

One thousand souls of the dead men
Breaking the silence by hatred
There's only one way to crawl out
Holding on to my hope 'til rise from this hell

Artist: Ark Storm
Albums: No Boundaries, Beginning of the New Legend, and The Everlasting Wheel
Genre: Power Metal
Official Site: http://home.att.ne.jp/kiwi/arkstorm/

Ark Storm is yet another Power Metal band from Japan. The group plays a more Neo-Classical style of Power Metal, but still keeps a keyboard player in the group (the same keyboard player, in fact, as Galneryus. Yuhki pulls double keyboard duties for both bands). The guitar solos are great (almost like Yngwie Malmsteen, but without too much wank), the bass player is absolutely amazing (he can pull solos just as well as the guitarist), and the vocals are awesome (except on No Boundaries. Thank Odin he changed his style for the better). It's just plain Power Metal that you can rock out to. Here is their entire discography so far (only three albums!)

Galneryus

Flying through the holy sky
Approaching the sea of rage
We can see the land of freedom
It's just a matter of time

Artist: Galneryus
Album: One For All - All For One (2007)
Genre: Power Metal
Official Site: http://www.syu-net.jp/galneryus/top.html

This Japanese Power Metal band was formed in 2001 by Valkyr guitar virtuoso Syu and vocalist Yama-B. After releasing three albums, the band is still going strong. The band plays a great style of power metal with awesome guitar solos, and for those of you who hate keyboard wankery, you will enjoy the fact that there is none. The keyboard playing is purely atmospheric, with a small solo here and there, but the band is primarily guitar-driven. Good kick-ass power metal from the land of the rising sun.

The Lord Weird Slough Feg

The curse of double helix brings only racial wars, And though you may not feel it, the air is filled with spores!

With a name like that how can you not want to check out this band? The Lord Weird Slough Feg (recently shortened to the much simpler, but just as baffling, Slough Feg) make a hybrid of heavy metal, power metal and folk metal with some elements of doom metal thrown in time-to-time for good measure.

The album I present to you this evening is a bit easier to define as it lacks the folkish oddities of their earlier releases, but don't expect straight forward heavy metal. What you should expect is a delicious soup of chunky riffs and tasty solos, in a broth of Mike Scalzi's unique vocals. All of the instrumentation is as tight as your little sister and the production is much cleaner than my conscience after what I did to her. God Lord this is a rambling and nonsensical review. The lyrics are based on an obscure 1970's RPG, from which the album lends it's name. It weaves an odd and often confusing sci-fi tale of space pirates, mad scientists, dog-like aliens, genetic experimentation, mutation and revenge. Awesome. Awesome to the max.

Listen now so I don't have to keep writing shit.

Elvenking

Seven moons painted the skies
Before I reached for the chosen one
A travel through the starlit horizons
Through the magic's way
On the path that leads us to knowledge,
A light fall of rites

Artist: Elvenking
Album: The Scythe (2007)
Genre: Power Folk Metal
Official Site: www.elvenking.net

Elvenking is not new to the metal community - almost every fan of Power or Folk Metal has heard of Damnagoras's vocals combined with the folky guitar tracks and violins. This brand of Folk-influenced Power Metal is incredible, and with the arrival of this latest album, the group continues on its conquest of the genre. The Scythe is a must-have for any Elvenking fan. Notable tracks include Romance and Wrath, The Scythe, and Death and the Suffering (a play off of the Wintersun song Death and the Healing).

Power Quest

Where will I find my heaven?
Can it really be here on Earth?
How can I know what's waiting?
How will I know what's meant for me?

Artist: Power Quest
Album: Magic Never Dies (2005)
Genre: Power Metal
Official Site: http://www.power-quest.co.uk/

Power Quest was formed in 2001 after a few members of the band DragonHeart (later known as the ever-famous Dragonforce) quit DragonHeart and started another band. Sam Totman provided guitars for a little while, but the band members soon found permanence in their roster with Alessio Garavello on vocals and rhythm guitar (who, in my opinion, is much better than ZP Theart). The band provides a more melodic turn than their fellow Brits, with more emphasis on keyboards. Overall, the band may not provide as much energy with solos as Dragonforce, but the overall sound is much better without any ridiculous wankery. For a more refined Dragonforce, Power Quest is your band. This is the band's 3rd release, Magic Never Dies. Notable tracks include Find My Heaven, Galaxies Unknown, and Another World.

Tracklist:
1. Ascension (Intro) - (2:04)

Album: Masterplan
Genre: Power Metal
Official Site: http://www.master-plan.net/

Masterplan is a German Power Metal band that was formed in 2002 by ex-Helloween members Roland Grapow and Uli Kusch. Although vocalist Jørn Lande is no longer with the band (he departed from the group after their second album), his vocals ring true on this album, bringing a powerful voice to the music. The guitarwork is also great, with impressive melodic keyboards in the background. This is Masterplan's first album, Masterplan, released in 2003. Notable tracks include Spirit Never Die and When Loves Comes Close.

Helloween

Here it is. The new release from German legends Helloween. Gambling With The Devil is, in my opinion, a gem in Helloween's discography. Definitely their best since The Dark Ride. Notably, there are some more speed metal elements than their last few albums with the riffing almost resembling Walls of Jericho. Hell, The Bells Of The 7 Hells almost sounds like an Overkill track.

Genre: Power Metal

Adgar is a very good Spanish Power Metal band. Yes, Spanish - not only are they from Spain, but they also sing entirely in Espanol. Freedom Call

Forever in a land of grace and glory
My soul is free of pain
And the children tell us stories
That harmony remains

Artist: Freedom Call
Album: Stairway to Fairyland
Genre: Power Metal
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/callforfreedom

Freedom Call is a Symphonic Power Metal band from Germany. The group formed during an off-period for drummer Dan Zimmermann's main band, Gamma Ray. The group recorded their first album,
Stairway to Fairyland, in 1999, and made their official debut in France as a support band for the touring Edguy and Angra. Overall, Freedom Call is Symphonic Power Metal at some of its best - the synth is an integral part, but the lack of a high soprano keeps them seperate from Visions of Atlantis or Nightwish and puts them in the ranks with some of Power Metal's greatest. This is their first album, Stairway to Fairyland. Notable tracks include Tears Falling, Graceland, and Holy Knight.

Kamelot

You know just who I am, don't be so distant, because when you're lost, I am solely there to share your grief.

Kamelot are a power metal band from Florida. They incorporate a lot of progressive and symphonic elements into their music - which is particularly evident in the album I have for you today.

The Black Halo is the band's seventh studio album, and is regarded one of their best by most fans. It is a concept album based on Goethe's Faust, concluding the story that started in the album Epica. There are also plenty of guest musicians on here, including Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir, Jens Johannson of Stratovarius and Simone Simons of Epica

I consider this album to be a pinnacle of the power metal genre, so definitely grab it if you haven't listened to it.

Blind Gaurdian's fourth full release is a powerhouse album. It goes from heavy, speed metal to soft acoustic ballads. Hansi Kürsch's voice is once again in prime conditions, delivering his usual high, powerful vocals. The guitarwork is typical of both speed and power metal, with plenty of catchy riffs. There are many highlights from this magnificent album which include
