Harvey Danger

You may have heard of them. Well, to be honest, you probably haven't. But I'm sure you know the song Flagpole Sitta, which was all over the place in the late '90s and was used as the theme song for the genius British sitcom Peep Show. The album I'm posting today doesn't actually have that song on it but you'll like it anyway.

Harvey Danger are an indie rock band from Seattle. Little By Little is their third full-length studio album, and in 2005 they released it as a free download from their website - before Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead made it cool.

It's a nice little album, and well worth a listen. And at least it's not noise. I mean, who the fuck wants to listen to Masonna? (Lolicat touches little boys.)

Maps & Atlases

Artist: Maps and Atlases
Album: Tree, Swallows, House
Genre: Indie, Math Rock
Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/mapsandatlases

Maps & Atlases is a math rock band from Chicago, Illinois. They sound similar to their influences Don Caballero and Hella. The guitarwork is crazy good. They're technical and yet easy to listen to. The vocals are a bit iffy, but they sound typical of the indie style. They're currently not under any label, so this album was a self-release put out on January 10 of this year. If you like technical guitars with progressive time-signature changes, this music is perfect for you. They're better than I expected them to be.

Tracklist:
1) Everyplace Is A House (3:58)

3) The Ongoing Horrible (2:05)
4) Big Bopper Anthems (4:42)
5) Stories About Ourselves (3:45)

Arcade Fire

Purify the colors, purify my mind, and spread the ashes of the colors over this heart of mine.

Okay, this may not be a post-rock album, but a fan of post-rock should dig it for the orchestral instrumentation and classical influences. It would act as very good gateway-album into the world of post-rock for those who are inclined towards indie rock.

Funeral is Arcade Fire's first full length album. As the title would suggest, the songs are mostly about death, but they approach the subject in an optimistic fashion rather than sounding glooming and depressive. The album has a strong instrumental focus with a lot of emphasis on strings.
