Ark Storm

One thousand souls of the dead men
Breaking the silence by hatred
There's only one way to crawl out
Holding on to my hope 'til rise from this hell

Artist: Ark Storm
Albums: No Boundaries, Beginning of the New Legend, and The Everlasting Wheel
Genre: Power Metal
Official Site: http://home.att.ne.jp/kiwi/arkstorm/

Ark Storm is yet another Power Metal band from Japan. The group plays a more Neo-Classical style of Power Metal, but still keeps a keyboard player in the group (the same keyboard player, in fact, as Galneryus. Yuhki pulls double keyboard duties for both bands). The guitar solos are great (almost like Yngwie Malmsteen, but without too much wank), the bass player is absolutely amazing (he can pull solos just as well as the guitarist), and the vocals are awesome (except on No Boundaries. Thank Odin he changed his style for the better). It's just plain Power Metal that you can rock out to. Here is their entire discography so far (only three albums!)

Galneryus

Flying through the holy sky
Approaching the sea of rage
We can see the land of freedom
It's just a matter of time

Artist: Galneryus
Album: One For All - All For One (2007)
Genre: Power Metal
Official Site: http://www.syu-net.jp/galneryus/top.html

This Japanese Power Metal band was formed in 2001 by Valkyr guitar virtuoso Syu and vocalist Yama-B. After releasing three albums, the band is still going strong. The band plays a great style of power metal with awesome guitar solos, and for those of you who hate keyboard wankery, you will enjoy the fact that there is none. The keyboard playing is purely atmospheric, with a small solo here and there, but the band is primarily guitar-driven. Good kick-ass power metal from the land of the rising sun.

1. Red Horizon - (2:12)
2. New Legend - (5:23)

Imperial Crystalline Entombment

Frozen spirits of ancient ancestry
Arise in union incestuously
Brother ocean, sister air
Chaotic upheaval I declare!

Artist: Imperial Crystalline Entombment
Album: Apocalyptic End in White (2004)
Genre: Black Metal
Official Site: http://www.imperialice.com/

Surprisingly, Imperial Crystalline Entombment are American, proving that we in the States can still make Black Metal without having to be Norwegian. The group's lyrics are themed on frigid death and winter, and mention of Råvaskeith is mentioned, supposedly a fictional diety being promoted by the band. With band members going by monikers such as Blisserred, Bleak, Icesickkill, and Mammoth, expect a frozen fury of hatred from I.C.E. Great vocals, great overall instrumentality - everything you'd expect from a good Black Metal band. Sadly, I.C.E had to part ways with their recording company, so they are currently unsigned. This is their only album so far, Apocalyptic End in White.

Also, this is the 100th upload to the Stormblog! Congratulations, us, we're amazing!

Tracklist:
1. Cryopgenic Communion - (1:00)
2. Astral Frost Invocation - (3:33)
3. Hypothermic Possession - (2:43)
4. Onward Banshee Legions - (5:12)
5. Apocalyptic Blizzard Regime - (4:16)
6. Upheaving the Ancient Thirst - (3:55)
7. Cascade Caverns Catharsis - (4:00)
8. Convulsing Frigid Death - (3:28)
9. Glacial Lyckanthropic Horde - (3:55)
10. Behold the Frozen Arctic Kingdom - (3:45)
11. Råvaskeith's Revenge - (2:48)

Candlemass

Break the circle and all hell comes loose, the well of souls must stay sealed
Ancient force of light against the dark, the well of souls must stay sealed

Classic doom metal ahoy. Candlemass are certainly worthy of utmost respect, they took the Sabbath-esque epic doom style and moulded it into the genre we know and love today.

Nightfall sees the Swedish masters of gloom take their music into further doomy territory than they visited on their first release, the awesome Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Messiah Marcolin's voice fits the epic tone perfectly and Lars Johansson provides the chunky riffs we've now come to expect from doom metal.

And just look at that cover art. Stunning.

Official Site: http://www.vasarat.com/

Alamaailman Vasarat is a Finnish sextet instrumental band that uses such instruments as the cello, contrabass, sousaphone, pump organ, and various other classical instruments to create a very unique sound. The percussion is also of note, using things such as door slams and breaking glass.

The Lord Weird Slough Feg

The curse of double helix brings only racial wars, And though you may not feel it, the air is filled with spores!

With a name like that how can you not want to check out this band? The Lord Weird Slough Feg (recently shortened to the much simpler, but just as baffling, Slough Feg) make a hybrid of heavy metal, power metal and folk metal with some elements of doom metal thrown in time-to-time for good measure.

The album I present to you this evening is a bit easier to define as it lacks the folkish oddities of their earlier releases, but don't expect straight forward heavy metal. What you should expect is a delicious soup of chunky riffs and tasty solos, in a broth of Mike Scalzi's unique vocals. All of the instrumentation is as tight as your little sister and the production is much cleaner than my conscience after what I did to her. God Lord this is a rambling and nonsensical review. The lyrics are based on an obscure 1970's RPG, from which the album lends it's name. It weaves an odd and often confusing sci-fi tale of space pirates, mad scientists, dog-like aliens, genetic experimentation, mutation and revenge. Awesome. Awesome to the max.

Listen now so I don't have to keep writing shit.

Elvenking

Seven moons painted the skies
Before I reached for the chosen one
A travel through the starlit horizons
Through the magic's way
On the path that leads us to knowledge,
A light fall of rites

Artist: Elvenking
Album: The Scythe (2007)
Genre: Power Folk Metal
Official Site: www.elvenking.net

Elvenking is not new to the metal community - almost every fan of Power or Folk Metal has heard of Damnagoras's vocals combined with the folky guitar tracks and violins.
